How to get there:

England to Naples

Easyjet runs flights from London Gatwick and Luton to Napoli. These are already available for Sept 2022. Alternatively, Ryanair has flights from Stansted to Napoli; or British Airways from Heathrow. The name of the airport is Napoli Capodichino.

Naples to Sorrento/Amalfi Coast by Car

We highly recommend renting a car if you are extending your trip into a holiday. It’s the easiest way to travel the Amalfi coast along some truly beautiful roads. If you’re renting a car then it’s just a 1.5 hour drive from Naples to Sorrento.

Naples to Sorrento/Amalfi Coast by Train

We do not recommend taking the train if you are going straight from the airport to Sorrento. There is no train station at the airport, so you have to take a bus to Napoli first and then get a train. If you are staying in Napoli first, you can get a train from the central station (Piazza Garibaldi) to Sorrento with the Campania Express. Timetable and online booking is here.

Naples to Sorrento/Amalfi Coast by Bus

You can get a bus from the airport to Sorrento. It takes only one hour and you can buy a ticket when you arrive at the airport.

Getting Around the coast by car

There is basically one road along the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi coast, so driving isn’t particularly hard around that side of region. But be warned that this road is narrow, full of traffic and more turns than you can imagine! But it’s an experience and beautiful. Confident driving is required to drive here, but it is amazing and rewarding. Also parking can be tricky – you’ll have to pay most of the time for parking when you want to visit a town or go to the beach, and it can cost between 2 and 4 euros per hour.

Getting around the coast by bus

A cheaper way to explore the coast is to take the many buses that run along the same crazy road. You can buy tickets in most cafes and convenience shops, and just hop on and off – it’s pretty convenient as you don’t have to worry about finding parking for your car. But be prepared for the buses to be slow as the tight turns can create huge traffic jams.
